Dr. Barnum’s love for Osteopathy started in 2013 with learning OMT as a first-year medical student at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Jersey. For years 2-4 in med school, Dr. Barnum tutored hundreds of students in OMT, sometimes staying up with them past midnight the night before their exams to help them pass. This sparked his passion to help others succeed and improve people's lives.
Like every other physician in the United States, Dr. Barnum was trained in the conventional Western Medicine approaches. During his residency training, he was doing a lot of hospital and office care that was simply managing symptoms. He realized very quickly that in the typical insurance-driven world, hospital care is heavily driven by getting patients in and out quickly. In the standard office setting, his biggest challenge was finding ways to connect with patients at a deeper level with an average of 15-30 minutes per person. However, Dr. Barnum is grateful for this time because it gave him a newfound level of empathy for the typical patient experience.
Toward the tail end of his residency, Dr. Barnum worked with an excellent mentor, Dr. Gerald Harris in Fort Worth, TX, an osteopathic physician who taught him the field of Neural Therapy. This reinvigorated Dr. Barnum to keep learning more and more rare alternative techniques and approaches, which he would then apply post-residency.
Dr. Barnum believes that patients are his best teachers, constantly revising different treatment approaches and learning new things every single week. He developed a one-of-a-kind Neural Therapy/OMT hybrid model that has been able to help him diagnose and treat cases of all types of complexities. As time progressed, he realized that he had to unlearn a lot of the conventional ways of medicine. Through studying the human body, trauma, emotional/spiritual healing, the subconscious mind and other topics, Dr. Barnum continued to see that a symptom serves as a guide toward a root cause.
There are various alternative approaches worth trying that do not involve prescription pills, invasive procedures or surgeries. This outside-the-box medical practice is dedicated to any patient who has ever felt dismissed or unheard by a medical healthcare professional. Dr. Barnum is here to listen to your story and help you restore your long-term quality of life.
